DGSHAPE Technology

In 1986, Roland Digital Group(DG) released the CAMM-3 PNC-3000. The world's first benchtop Computer Numeric Control (CNC) milling machine capable of producing three dimensional objects on a variety of different materials, but most importantly, from an emerging new technology - the Personal Computer (PC). This revolutionary idea was the very first innovation in a long line of technological achievements over the last three decades. Built on a foundation of 3-axis, motion control technology, the real secret to the success of the company is the firmware that drives the hardware. This is our best kept secret and the reason Roland DG has consistently brought cost effective and extremely reliable products to market for over three decades.

Building on that legacy, DGSHAPE continues to drive innovation within the various markets our products cater to. We seek to Shape Ideas for ways our customers can continue to grow their business, we aim to Shape Change through consistent disruption of technology and markets, and we strive to Shape the Future by providing tools for the entrepreneur to turn their imagination into reality.

See below for a snapshot of the technology behind our amazing products.

Rotary Machining

Rotary machining technology is the foundation of the Roland DG CAMM-2 and CAMM-3 product families that have evolved into today's Decorating and Modeling solutions. This technology uses a spindle that rotates a tool at high velocity to remove material from a solid block of wax, plastic, foam, wood, and some soft metals. We call this process Subtractive Rapid Prototyping, or SRP.

Our rotary machining technologies range from 2.5-axis to 5-axis, and are all controlled by the same revolutionary motion control firmware that defined our earliest products back in 1986.

Light Amplified Select Emission Radiation sounds fancy doesn't it? Well we took the fancy and put it to good use making even fancier items with our LD Laser Decorator line of products.

Using a semiconductor laser, combined with our revolutionary motion control firmware, our laser decoration technology transfers metallic foil to promotional products which can be very difficult with conventional hot-foil stamping technology. The laser focuses heat to activate the adhesive on these foils, only in the areas needed, to decorate logos and text on a variety of different materials.

How Impact Printing works
Impact Printing

Using a diamond tipped stylus powered by an electric solenoid (oscillator) and our revolutionary motion control firmware, our Metaza photo impact printer converts raster and vector images into impact dots that simulate dot matrix printing. This can create images up to 529 DPI to re-create high quality photographs on precious metals. The vector technology simulates a diamond drag scribing process that can be used for industrial marking of serialized identification tags and 2D barcodes for Unique Device Identification (UDI) of medical devices.

How Digital Light Projection works
Additive Manufacturing

DGSHAPE adopts the Digital Light Projection (DLP) method of additive manufacturing technology. This unique technology can reproduce high quality three-dimensional objects whose shape and resolution could be difficult to realize by the most specialized milling.

The process involves curing photopolymer liquid resins into solid form using ultraviolet light through a proprietary lens technology and LED lamps. Primarily used for Digital Denture applications, DLP technology can also be used for many other dental applications including surgical guides and models.

Cell based manufacturing assembly "Digital Yatai"
Digital Yatai

Roland DG, the parent company of DGSHAPE, adopted its own cell production system "D-Shop". Using a paperless digital process on computer monitors at their workstation, factory workers select parts that are automatically supplied from a rotary rack and perform assembly using specifically selected hand tools. The heart of our group's manufacturing is "people".

We offer products that are trusted by customers by augmenting human weaknesses such as attention, concentration and memory power, with digital technology to maximize human strengths such as dexterity, ambition, and curiosity.

The Digital Yatai system lets one factory worker assemble a machine from start to finish. As a result, quality control can be tracked back to a single assembly point to minimize any defects in production or design.
